Overlord: Explanations - Races: Minions

(This based all knowledge I have of Overlord Series and, the ideas and the theories that Overlord Fans have about the Overlord Series. Everything belongs to their respective owners and so please do not sue me.)

Minions
We are Minions, my lord, we exists to serve the Overlord and his family. We Minions are chimera homunculi that were originally created by the First Overlord in the bowels of the Netherworld from different creatures; Imps, Goblins, Trolls, Dragons and especially Gremlins are just few of the many creatures that he use to create us Minions. Our original master and your ancestor, the First Overlord, made first of us minions after a series of Experimentations went awry, his attempt was to combine these creatures to make a perfect balance of the species, creating new breed of chimeras that only he and his descends could control. Instead, he made all of Minion Tribes, the Mother Hive and us Minions. Minions come in five different lovely flavors: The Grays, The Browns, The Reds, The Greens, and The Blues, each with their own strengths and abilities. As the most devoted and loyal servants, Minions will gladly sacrifice their lives for you, Master!

You must know sir, that there were once seven Minion Tribes; the Whites, Blacks, Grays, Browns, Reds, Greens and Bleus. Long ago during of the rule of the First Overlord Empire, the Descends of the First Lord ruled over both the Underworld and Overworld from the safety of Netherworld.  During that time, the Minion Tribes did not have their own Hives, but they were all born from one single hive known as the Mother Hive. For two thousand years, both Minions and their Masters lived here safely in the Netherworld, in the Deep City of Uru. I was just a young minion, but I still remember the glory days of Uru, streets filled with happy people that were loyal to our master, the late night parties, the good food, the drinks and women, I was quiet the party animal back then. Then one day without warring the Netherworld was invaded from two sides at the same time, on one side we had the 'Holy' Crusaders from Dominion of Light and the other side we got a demon army from the Infernal Abyss know as the Horde of Darkness. Insure the continued survival of First Master's Bloodline, we Minions leaded the children of our master to safety and saved Tower-Heart as two armies were lay waste to the once proud city of Uru. As we were hasting back to save to Mother Hive, we realize that there is something fouler is at game here, the two armies did not attack one and another, they seemed that they are work to together to destroy anyone and anything in Uru. Someone was setting us up, conspiring against us; use both Forces of Light and Darkness to destroy our master's bloodline and planning to take their creations and their secrets and power for himself. The two armies had found their way into Spawning Pits and it was on this point that the ancient hatred between Light and Darkness got the best of both armies and both 'former allies' turn on each other.

During the fighting the Mother Hive was destroyed, shattering in a dozen pieces, we Minions thought that we all going to die at that moment, but something happened that we might call a miracle, the larger fragments of the Mother Hive began to change shape and color. One of the fragments became gray and its surface became shaped like brain coral. Another become orange with yellowish brown and looks like large pile of guts or big dog feces. Another fragment began to smoke, as it became black as coal and red as flames, as trumpet-like craters appeared on its surface. Another one of fragments became sickly green, strange vines rise up from surface, and last fragment of the Mother Hive became sea blue and large coral like flowers formed on its surface. These newly shaped and colored fragments became the Minion Hives we know today.

During that the horrible day, the our master's empire that stood strong for two thousand years was thrown into chaos, most of his family was killed, both the Armies of Light and Darkness looted the riches from the ruins of Uru and only five of the seven Minion Tribes survived the destruction of Mother Hive. Nevertheless, we survived and will continue to survive. So long as the children of our masters and Tower-Heart are safe and we Minions have learned to deal with this new idea that we have now have to take care and protect our own Hives, we be alright. We all know that one day we will rise again, reclaim what we have lost and take revenge of those who have done us wrong! Because Evil always finds a way…

Many of us believed that the Black and White Minion Tribes did not survived the destruction of Mother Hive, but none of us does not know if true or not, but we do not really care if they did. We Minion call both the Black and White Minions the Failures, and for a very good reason. Why? Because many of the Minions believe that both Tribes betrayed both our Masters and all the other Minion Tribes to the invading armies that have destroyed Uru. I will tell more about the Black and White Minions when the time arises, or now let's continue…  

Your ancestor, the First Overlord, blessed all the Minion Tribes with many different attributes and abilities, but that does not mean that we Minions are invincible, very Minion Tribe has its common strengths and weakness. Because being closely related to Gremlins all your Minions can tear just about anything apart in matter of minutes or seconds… This is the main reason why your Minions love to cause mayhem and destruction. Our Gobbling inheritance gives your Minions need to build, creativity, engineering skills and out-of-the-box thinking to balance the Gremlin's one-dimensional thinking and the lust of destruction and mayhem. But it also makes your Minions cunning, deceitful and bit greedy, but our Imps ancestry which makes us Minions mischievous and playful also make us absolute loyal and extremely obedient. We Minions have also bit Troll in us, sir, the First Overlord did experimentations on many different species of Trolls, trying to isolate the strongest trades and abilities of the Trolls, and then giving them to us Minions. One of these trades is the powerful Digestive System of the Trolls, we Minions can eat almost anything; we can digest raw meat, bugs and other uncooked plants and animals without any side effects or getting sick. While we Minions do like to eat cooked food more than eat raw food, being able to eat raw things does increase our survival chances in the wild. Other ability that your Minion has inherited from the Trolls is their remarkable regenerative capabilities; all trolls can regenerate lost limbs and heal grievous physical injuries at an accelerated rate, which gives your Minions a large advantage in battle. At last, with the blood of the noble Dragons flowing through our vials makes your Minions more in tune with natural and magical forces of the world, and allows some of us to use or be immune to various many forms of magic or elements. True that the Dragon blood that flows through your Minions veins is more water down version of the true stuff, it still is very potent and powerful, especial since that blood comes from a three-headed dragon god. Do to our mixed inheritance give all us Minions unique ability to smell magic, like bloodhounds, your Minion's extraordinarily keen sense of smell allows us to sniff out a annoying elf out his hiding place, find a dragon's hidden lair with a day or any other magical creatures.

Secondly, Lord, in the past, your ancestor found that creating life from nothing was impossible. While he could create the Bodies of the Minions there was no true way to create the Life-force, that juicy energy that Vampires want and Zombies lack, necessary to give them life. In the past, many alchemists have tried to create life, to create a homunculus and often they got kill by their own creation after they give it life.

You want to know what a homunculus is, sir? Basically its constructs of flesh and blood, artificial creature in the shape of human being, that is create through a complex process of Alchemy, similar to a golem but possessing a sense of will and intelligence. Some alchemists created homunculi for various reasons, one want show off that he can create a homunculus, while another want one to wash his dirty socks and cleaning his house. You also have alchemists that want to make an army of homunculi to take over the world, and then you have lonely alchemists who are just wants a perfect wife. Alchemists give life to their creations by infusing the lifeless bodies with piece of a soul, often resorting to use someone else his soul to do this, sometime they even use piece of their own soul to do it. However, this draw al lot of unwanted attention, because tainting an immortal Soul and creating life is so-called ultimate sin, and the some gods often take revenge on these alchemists by turning the homunculi they created into monsters that became the embodiment of their creator's sin.

However, your ancestor, the First Overlord, found a loophole. In short, Lord, he created the Gauntlet, the magics that are bounded to the Gauntlet absorbs the Life-Force of those slain by you or your Minions, then transports it to the tower, allowing you to call forth more Minions to your aid! It does this by concentrate the escaping life energies of dying creatures in your vicinity into little spheres of life energy, known as Life-force Orbs, preventing them from escaping or being reabsorbed by nature. Allowing you to absorb these Life-force Orbs with the Gauntlet and transmit the Life-force back to the Netherworld's Spawning Pit where it is deposited into the hive that matches its element. Within the Hive, though a complex process of Alchemy and different kinds of magics, a lifeless Minion Body is create, then though magical and biological processes the Spark of Life becomes infused into Minion given it life.

No Sire, it does not steal Souls. It merely transfers the Spark of Life within all living creatures to a new Minion. It is not like a dead Creature needs it so your Ancestor created it for that purpose. He figured that if a Minion did not use it then it was basically going to waste, and he hated wasting anything. He found a way of recycling the life energies of these dead creatures, reuses them without using or harming a single soul. Once the Life-Force is infused in lifeless body a new life is born and new soul is born to inhabit the body. He left his own Soul and those of other alone as it seems even he had some amount of an aversion to trying to taint the immortal Soul. I cannot blame him, tainting a soul does draw allot of unwanted attention from above.

There are seven types of Life-forces in nature which are contacted to a Element. Dark Life-force is the life essences of Darkness, usually found inside creatures of Darkness or anyone who is Evil. Grey Life-force is the life essences of Chaos, this Life-force is extremely rare and it is believed that it can only be found inside beings or creatures of unimaginable power and strength. White Life-force is the life essences of Light, this can be found inside all creatures of light or those who have a pure soul. Red Life-force is the life essences of fire, it can be found inside any creatures of fire, those that lives in or near fiery places like volcanoes, or those with fire in soul. Yellow Life-force is the life essences of Earth, this Life-force is the most common of all Life-forces in nature, from Humans to Sheep Yellow Life-force is part of all creatures of the Earth. Green Life-force is the life essences of Air, it can be found inside all creatures that ride the winds and for some reason it can also be found inside poisonous creatures and those who stink, must be the fowl air that surrounded them. Blue Life-force is the life essences of Water, it can found inside many water creatures and also inside magical creatures. Remember sir that smaller creatures like rats, rabbits or squeals do not have enough body mass to produce the necessary life energy to form Life-force Orb. If you want Life-Force you have to kill something bigger, like a dog or a sheep. Always remember that bigger is better, because bigger creatures are capable of produce more life energy then smaller ones, which equals into more Life-force Orbs for you to take. In addition, magical creatures produce al lot more life energy than normal creatures, which means al lot Life-force Orbs for you.

Minions are quite cleaver creatures, sire, and cleaver enough to equip any useful items in the area… as well as some useless ones… Anything form weapons, tools, armor or cloths they find on the battlefield or during raids they will use but there is a change that they use everyday items like pots and pans has helmets or using spoons or dough roller as weapons. However if they do find something better than they already have they will switch the useless item for the better one.

Hard working for their Overlord, your Minions often offer you gifts for little praise or rewards.  These gifts can come in the forms of Treasure, Mana and Healing Potions or other items and objects that may be useful for their lord. If Minion they bring something useless do not worry that does not happened often. Minions are will readily sacrifice themselves for their Overlord, such as in Mana Pits or Blood Pits, or imbuing your weapons by forging. When they sacrifice themselves, they do so in order of reverse-power, Minions who are the weakest will sacrifice themselves first. And do worry about us, we Minions are more than happy give up our lives for you, my lord, we are very loyal.

A Minion's loyalty is absolute but only to a True Overlord, one who is descended from the First Overlord. You see, Sire, whenever we find a True Overlord, The Tower-Heart reacts and the magic's that created us make us unable to betray our True Lord in any way shape or form, but not so with the usual substitutes that come along every now and then… You see when a 'substitute' overlord takes place we minions usually either get him into a situation where he can't win OR we wait and let a bunch of blood pathetic hero's come along and kill him or her…. We can't anyone stealing my family's heritage now can we?

We Minions also known allot inner workings and function of many magical artifacts that the First Overlord have left behind. The First Overlord entrusted us Minions to safeguard many of his secrets and only pass this knowledge to a True Overlord. If  there 'substitute' overlord we Minions only tell them what he/she needs to known and never ever will revile the true Secrets of the Overlord to anyone who's not a True Overlord even if we are tortured a thousand times. If any of these secrets fall in the hands of the wrong people, it will have severe consensuses for them and for us.

What did you ask, sir? Are there female minions? Yes sir, there are female minions, but they are extremely rare. Female Minions only make up very small percents of the entire Minion population, sir, you see when the First Overlord created us he discovered that the Minion Hives can capable of giving birth to a female minion, but it does not happen often, only one in million chance that a female minion is born. Female Minions are smarter, faster and more agile than their male counterparts are, and have al lot of power in minion society, not much as a Minion Elders or Minion Leaders, but they have al lot of influence. Male Minions often try to courtship with Female Minion, more than often fight for her and some have even tried to force his way on her. Seeing that male minions outnumber the female population, an ancient minion law that the First Overlord has left behind forbids any male minion to harm any female minion, or make her do things against her will. If they want to have a female minion as a mate, they have to prove themselves to the said female and hope she will choose him as her mate.

Yes sir, We Minions can be born without a hive, when male Minion and female Minion do the act, off course, Minions born between these unions are smarter, stronger and more skilled then new spawned Minions from the Hives. But unfortunately takes times for Baby Minions to grow up to a battle ready Minion and seeing that majority of us Minions die on the battlefield defending our master's Empire, we need replacements fast to fill up holes in defenses, with the Minion Hives we are capable of quickly produce replacements, simple quantity over quality.
